TENNESSEE MOVE OVER LAW
There's a new law in Tennessee regarding motorists' actions in the vicinity of authorized emergency vehicles and utility vehicles (police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, telephone, water department, gas, etc. vehicles). The reason for the law is to enhance the safety of emergency service personnel, utility personnel, and citizens who may be involved with them.

Motorists, when approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle that has its lights on are required by this law to slow down and proceed with due caution. If you're on a multi-lane road, you're requred to make a lane change into a lane of travel that is not adjacent to the emergency vehicle, if you safely can.

A violation of the Tennessee Move Over Law in Elizabethton is a Class B Misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 and/or up to six months incarceration.
