To provide the citizens of our community with a professional law enforcement investigative team, which will aggressively investigate felony and high misdemeanor offenses and ensure successful identification, apprehension and prosecution of offenders.
The Criminal Investigations Division
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Elizabethton Police Department consists of six full-time officers. There is one captain, one sergeant and five investigators. Current assignments include one full-time domestic violence investigator and one full-time narcotics investigator in addition to four criminal investigators who actively investigate high misdemeanor and felonies ranging from petit theft to rape, robbery and homicide.
During the past year the unit has received specialized training in interview and interrogation, homicide investigation, crisis management, community oriented policing, child sexual abuse, street gangs and other fields to stay updated on the ever growing demands of law enforcement. In addition to training, the CID has obtained several pieces of technical equipment, such as a Micro-surveillance video/recording device and computer aided composite drawings to help apprehend suspects. The CID Unit actively participates along with other police agencies in the North East Tennessee Criminal Intelligence and Apprehension Unit (NETCIAU) and the Regional Organized Crime Information Center (ROCIC).
Duties and Responsibilities of Investigators
- Investigate crimes against persons and property
- Interview victims and witnesses
- Interrogate suspects
- Seek and preserve evidence
- Investigates and follows up on clues
- Maintain surveillance of suspected areas of illegal activity and known criminals
- Conducts or assists in raids
- Apprehends suspects
- Investigates homicides, assaults, auto thefts, burglaries,
- missing persons, larcenies, bad checks, vice operations, etc.
